Fužijada: A Celebration of Istria’s Favourite Pasta

September 10, 2026

·

If there is one pasta you should know while visiting Istria, it is fuži. And on September 19, Kanfanar is dedicating an entire evening to it.

Starting at 5:30 PM on Kanfanar’s main square, Fužijada returns for another edition filled with traditional flavours, live cooking, local wines and music. Entrance is free, so all you really need to bring is an appetite.

Fužijada celebrates one of Istria’s most recognizable traditional pasta shapes, but there is much more happening than simply tasting fuži. This year, Croatian chefs Stjepan Vukadin and Antonio Brajković will face each other in a live cooking challenge, preparing their own versions of fuži with seasonal ingredients. Visitors will also get a chance to taste their creations.

And if you have ever wondered how those little pasta shapes are actually made, this is a good place to find out. Local women from Kanfanar will demonstrate the traditional process of making and shaping fuži by hand, keeping a small but delicious piece of Istrian tradition alive.

The programme continues with activities for children, including face painting, while adults can explore a selection of Istrian wines presented by Vinistra and cocktails by Damijanić Distillery.

Once the cooking is done and everyone has had their share of fuži, the evening turns to music. Novi fosili and Srebrna krila take the stage at around 8:30 PM, bringing two well-known Croatian bands to Kanfanar for the evening.
