Autumn in Rabac comes with a different kind of freedom.
The summer crowds are gone, the days are still pleasant enough to spend outdoors, and suddenly there is more time to explore beyond the beach. And since not everyone travels the same way, we planned a few different autumn days for you.

For the Adventurers
Take a Quad Up to Skitača
If your ideal holiday needs a little more speed, dirt roads and a seriously good view, start with the Skitača Guided Tour. This three-hour quad experience takes you away from Rabac and up towards Skitača, a small village high above the eastern Istrian coast. The route leads through the surrounding landscape, with forest roads, open terrain and wide views over the Kvarner Bay. A guide, helmet and fuel are included, so all you really need to bring is comfortable clothing and a willingness to get a little dusty. And that is part of the fun.
Autumn is a particularly good time for this kind of trip. The temperatures are more comfortable than in the middle of summer, the landscape feels quieter and the views from above Rabac are worth the ride on their own. Afterwards, head back towards the coast and reward yourself with a late lunch by the sea.
Little Book tip: Bring an extra layer. It can feel noticeably cooler once you climb above the coast.
For the Foodies
Follow the Truffles to Motovun
Autumn in Istria means truffle season, so if food is the reason you travel, this is probably the itinerary for you. The Motovun Guided Tour & Truffle Tasting takes you from Rabac into one of Istria’s best-known hilltop towns, with round-trip transport included. Once there, explore Motovun with a guide before getting to the part everyone is really waiting for: the truffle tasting. The experience also includes wine, which feels particularly appropriate considering where you are.
It lasts around five hours, so it takes up a good part of the day without turning into an exhausting full-day excursion. You still have time to return to Rabac, take a walk by the sea and decide whether dinner is actually necessary after all that tasting. Spoiler: it probably is.
Little Book tip: Autumn is one of the busiest periods for truffle experiences, so this is one worth booking ahead.

For the History Lovers
Go Underground at Kova Experience
Most people do not come to Istria expecting to spend part of their holiday inside a coal mine. Which is exactly why the Kova Experience is worth doing. Located in Raša, close to Rabac, the experience takes you underground into a former coal mine and introduces you to the mining history that shaped this part of eastern Istria. You learn about the people who worked there, the conditions underground and the town that grew around the industry. Then comes the memorable part: helmet on, into the tunnels. It is much more immersive than simply reading about local history in a museum.
Afterwards, do not drive straight back to Rabac. Take some time to walk around Raša first. Once you know the story behind the town, its architecture suddenly makes much more sense. If you still feel like exploring, continue to Labin Old Town for coffee, a walk through its narrow streets and one of the viewpoints overlooking Rabac. That gives you one autumn day with a surprisingly good mix of industrial history, architecture and seaside scenery.
Little Book tip: Bring a light jacket. The temperature underground stays cool regardless of the weather outside.
For the Curious Travellers
Spend the Day in Pula
If you are the kind of traveller who wants to understand a little more about where you are, choose the Pula City Guided Tour. Pula feels completely different from Rabac; Roman history, old streets, grand architecture and, of course, the Arena make it one of the easiest places in Istria to spend a few hours simply wandering and noticing how many layers of history are packed into one city. A guided tour helps put all of that into context, especially because Pula is full of places you could easily walk past without realising what you are looking at.
With transport from Rabac included, you can simply enjoy the trip without worrying about driving or parking. When you return, keep the evening slow: dinner, a glass of wine and a walk along Rabac’s promenade. Sometimes a full sightseeing day deserves a very easy ending.
Little Book tip: Wear comfortable shoes and leave some room for wandering. In Pula, some of the best details are found between the big landmarks.
For the Ones Who Came Here to Slow Down
Not every good autumn day needs an excursion. Start with breakfast and do not rush it. Have coffee by the sea, then take a slow walk along Rabac’s coastline. Autumn brings back the kind of quiet that is difficult to find in the middle of summer, and you do not need to swim to enjoy the beach. Sit somewhere in the sun, read, walk and stay longer than planned.
If the weather changes, head to Olive Garden Wellness & Spa and heated indoor pools instead. A cooler or cloudier autumn afternoon suddenly feels much better when you are spending it somewhere warm. Later, have a long lunch or an early dinner by the sea and leave the rest of the day completely unplanned.
That is the itinerary – no checklist, no rushing, and no feeling that you should be somewhere else. Sometimes the best way to experience a destination is simply to stay in it for a while.
Or Mix Them Up
Of course, these are not rules. You can ride a quad to Skitača in the morning and spend the afternoon in wellness. Visit Kova Experience and finish the day at sunset by the sea. Go truffle tasting in Motovun and still be back in Rabac for an evening walk.
That is probably one of the best things about spending autumn here. Rabac is peaceful enough to slow down, but close enough to the rest of Istria that every day can look completely different.
So the only real question is: What kind of autumn day do you feel like having?
