If there is one place in Istria that takes prosciutto seriously, it is Tinjan.
From October 16 to 18, this small town in central Istria hosts ISAP – the International Prosciutto Fair, bringing together some of the finest prosciutto producers from Istria and across Europe. For three days, visitors can taste different varieties of prosciutto, meet the producers and enjoy guided tastings, workshops, sports activities and plenty of other local specialties. In Istria, prosciutto has long been much more than an appetizer — it is an important part of local food culture and a tradition that requires plenty of skill, patience and time. This year comes with an extra challenge. On Friday, October 16, Tinjan will attempt to break the world record for the largest number of people slicing meat at the same time, with the goal of bringing together 300 prosciutto slicers. And once the tastings are done, the evenings continue with live music throughout the weekend.
