On September 19 and 20, Svetvinčenat hosts its annual Cheese Festival, bringing together cheesemakers from Istria and beyond to present and, most importantly, taste their products. But cheese isn’t the only star of the weekend. The festival also hosts one of its most charming traditions: the annual competition to crown the Best Goat of Istria.
Alongside plenty of cheese to discover, visitors can enjoy traditional shepherd games, while the accompanying Mrkat istrijanskega dela offers a glimpse into old Istrian crafts, handmade products and souvenirs. It’s a fun way to discover another side of Istrian food and rural tradition — and probably one of the few festivals where the goats get just as much attention as the food. The festival begins at 11:00 AM in Svetvinčenat and takes place throughout the weekend.
